oops, I did it again

This wasn't suppose to happen. It completely caught me off guard and in the whirlwind of euphoria, I whipped out my credit card without a second thought and I was out in 20 minutes with a bright pink shopping bag slung over my shoulder.

This is how it went down: I had stopped by Holt Renfrew on Thursday to say hi to a friend. I was heading back into the mall and to get to the overpass, I had to go upstairs and walk past the shoe section. Holt Renfrew had their shoe sale going on for about 2 weeks now, so the racks were out, shoes were strewned on the floor and overall, it was a hot mess. However, out of the corner of my eye, something sparkly caught my attention. With my spidey senses tingling, I zoned in on the sparkle and much to my surprise, it was the Prada sequined loafers that I had been lusting over for months!

When the shoe sale had initially started, I had perused the racks to see if the loafers were discounted. I couldn't find them anyway, so I asked the sales associate if there was any in the back, and she told me that they had sold out of the shoes. Disappointed, I went on my way and never thought about them again, convinced that I had missed out on a lovely pair of shoes.

Well, that obviously wasn't the case, because I managed to find the last pair of size 39's on Thursday! I was chatting with the sales associate who was ringing up my purchase and she mentioned that  there was just so much stock in the back and with the limited space on the floor, it wasn't possible to display all the shoes on sale. So, as they slowly cleared out their backroom, they come across more and more shoes to bring out onto the floor and as luck would have it, the Prada sequined loafers were one of those pairs!

I am madly in love with these shoes. So much so, that I bought a pair for my friend who loves them just as much as me (shoe twinsies!). Now, I'm off to freeze all my credit cards until September!

a little bit of Prada

It's my birthday, it's the long weekend and it's Prada. Unboxing pictures below to show off my new bag in all it's leathery glory:

It's the medium saffiano leather tote with double handles in the the colour Glicine. I believe it's a limited edition colour for the Spring/Summer 2013 season. It's my new favourite :)

And now I'm on a shopping ban for 2 months...  o_O

snapshots from 2012

Dressed up as a kitty cat for Halloween. A sassy one too, if you can't tell from my face.
Helping my friend move the cats between houses as the professional movers take care of the heavy stuff.  Poor Bobo stayed in his carrier the whole day, even after the movers left. He didn't even come out for sashimi. Finally came out in the middle of the night to jump in and out of the leftover, empty cardboard boxes, Maru-style.
Kinski was completely fearless; the minute her carrier door was open, she was exploring the house and looking for new hiding places.
Owls everywhere!
Oops.
A stuffed rattle for my friend's daughter's first birthday.
Wrestling with this pork shoulder to make pulled pork.
This lady was carrying her pet goose around in a make-shift buggy and letting people take pictures for a dollar.
Snarf Snarf sleeping under my friend's Christmas tree. The next morning, half of the ornaments were on the floor.
My first Christmas tree!
And since it was my first Christmas in my new place, I also got a Grinch tree from Divine Vines in Yaletown.
My friend woke up Sputnik from his nap to take this picture. He was not amused.
This is what my sister got me for Christmas! I want the Batman figurine now...

las vegas - 2nd time around

This was definitely more of a shopping trip than a party trip... and I have the credit card bills to prove it! But we didn't spend the whole trip shopping and abusing my credit card. We also stopped by the Atomic Testing Museum which is about 20 minute cab ride from the main strip. Very informative and quite the eye-opener, especially finding out how the American government was trying to promote/spin the need for atomic bombs as a positive(?!) source of energy and the way of the future.

Part of a film we watched that explained how atomic energy is created. Obviously before they explode, atoms do a little jig.

The letter below from a professor in Osaka, Japan to the government of the United States, outlining some of the health risks of atomic radiation exposure:

This is a photo of an atomic explosion forming in the first few seconds. It was photographed at a rate of 1/1,000,000 of a second.
After visiting the Atomic Testing museum, cheesy entertainment was required and that was fulfilled with this:

Side story: Now, when we had brunch earlier in the day, I ordered the chef's special of chicken and salad. Silly me, thinking that chicken portion would only consist of a thigh or a drumstick, completely forgetting that I was dealing with American portion sizes. So when my meal arrived, half a chicken and some greens on the side was presented to me. I mean, it was delicious and the salad was fresh, but it's still  half. a. chicken.

The bird in all its glory.
Gobbles and Einstein taking in the medieval festivities at the Excalibur.
We came here for the Knights Tournament and included in the ticket price was dinner, which was a WHOLE CHICKEN and vegetables. A whole FREAKING chicken! Of course, I wasn't able to finish the whole chicken; I just basically picked at it and ate about a quarter of the bird. So basically, in one day, I consumed 3/4 of a chicken. Not too thrilled about the food selection here. I mean, vegetarians were obviously not considered when they were coming up with the meal plan.
