luxury for less

I've been waiting for Joe Fresh to get their Fall/Winter stock after seeing these shirts in their holiday catalog and finally got them on Friday. The green silk shirt also comes in a soft bright pink, ivory and black but, I love the bright emerald green colour. It's so eye-catching and great for the holidays. The black lace shirt is very pretty as well. Of course, I'll have to wear a tank underneath or a vest over top for it to be suitable for work but I still love it nonetheless.

The price tag reads $49, but the shirt actually rung up on the register as $39. Quite happy about that! :)

gucci gucci, louis louis, fendi fendi, prada

Already have a Gucci, so the next thing to purchase was a Louis.

Limited edition Louis Vuitton Monogram Zippy Wallet IllustrĂ© celebrates LV’s travel heritage with whimsical illustrations from 1909. Early Christmas present to me.

'Tis the season to whip out the credit card

November is usually the month of shopping events all over the city, which means early Christmas present shopping (well, this time around it was mostly for me, but next time!).

This year the GAP on Robson Street teamed up with The Style Spy to host a shopping party in store. Sweet treats were provided by Frankie's Candy Bar and Jones Soda, there were line-ups to the Blo braid bar, and the place was pumping with great music by DJ Ana. I bought a lovely metallic sweater and some thick sweater tights and got a swag bag which was great because I've been using the Goody hair spin pins constantly at work (the skoah products and the Louis Vuitton wallet were, of course, not a part of the swag bag, but was all purchased on the same day and I was too lazy to take separate photos.)

Afterwards, I stopped by skoah's 10-Year Birthday Party held at their flagship store in Yaletown where they were offering a free facial at their new South Granville location for every $70 purchase of skoah products. Love the skoah products! Stoked up on the Hydradew and the AHA mask since those are my go-to items that I use all year round to keep my skin moisturized and calm. Also got a few travel size products with my purchase: a small sample of AHA mask and a body lotion. These will be great for when I'm travelling, since my skin tends get irritated due to the change in environment (the recycled air in the plane, hard/soft water in the hotel and the air wreck havoc on my skin when I'm travelling).

trick or treat

Happy Halloween to all the tricksters and treaters out there! No matter how old you are, it's always fun to dress up and get free candy! But what's even better than dressing up and getting free candy? Going to the store on November 1st and finding all the candy on sale :D

;)

I needed a few things to bring my Halloween costume together and found them all and more at the Wink beauty event on Thursday. Loaded up on some new eye lashes to make the peepers pop, earrings and nail polish and after inhaling a large pumpkin cream chocolate cupcake and treat-sized candy bars, I decided to call it a night and head home before the pending sugar crash.

PS: Amidst my sugar high, I accidentally left my debit card at Wink. But, no worries, the sweet girls at Wink kept in the till for me and it is now safely snuggled back into my wallet.

Everyone received a goodie bag with purchase, which was unexpected. Who doesn't like free stuff?!
The cosmetic bag, coupons, skincare and beauty samples, nail file and bath poof all came in the gift bag. The candy was added to the bag by me :)
Pretty earrings. Because I girl can never have too many earrings.

occupy wall street... oh wait...

Well, since we don't have a Wall Street here, it was more like "Occupy the lawn of the Vancouver Art Gallery". But, since that was quite the mouthful, it was conveniently shortened to "Occupy Vancouver."

There were two drummers and a guy with bongo drums coming up with this crazy beat that got the people grooving.
Statements, demands, and signs go here to be guarded by MEC backpacks, the gear favoured by protesters.
The crowd at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
I'm not sure who or which demographic/group this flag is aimed at, but yeah... way to get the word out!
Police presence: Making sure it was a peacful protest.

las vegas - 2nd time around

This was definitely more of a shopping trip than a party trip... and I have the credit card bills to prove it! But we didn't spend the whole trip shopping and abusing my credit card. We also stopped by the Atomic Testing Museum which is about 20 minute cab ride from the main strip. Very informative and quite the eye-opener, especially finding out how the American government was trying to promote/spin the need for atomic bombs as a positive(?!) source of energy and the way of the future.

Part of a film we watched that explained how atomic energy is created. Obviously before they explode, atoms do a little jig.

The letter below from a professor in Osaka, Japan to the government of the United States, outlining some of the health risks of atomic radiation exposure:

This is a photo of an atomic explosion forming in the first few seconds. It was photographed at a rate of 1/1,000,000 of a second.
After visiting the Atomic Testing museum, cheesy entertainment was required and that was fulfilled with this:

Side story: Now, when we had brunch earlier in the day, I ordered the chef's special of chicken and salad. Silly me, thinking that chicken portion would only consist of a thigh or a drumstick, completely forgetting that I was dealing with American portion sizes. So when my meal arrived, half a chicken and some greens on the side was presented to me. I mean, it was delicious and the salad was fresh, but it's still  half. a. chicken.

The bird in all its glory.
Gobbles and Einstein taking in the medieval festivities at the Excalibur.
We came here for the Knights Tournament and included in the ticket price was dinner, which was a WHOLE CHICKEN and vegetables. A whole FREAKING chicken! Of course, I wasn't able to finish the whole chicken; I just basically picked at it and ate about a quarter of the bird. So basically, in one day, I consumed 3/4 of a chicken. Not too thrilled about the food selection here. I mean, vegetarians were obviously not considered when they were coming up with the meal plan.

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E! Mickey Mouse! DONALD DUCK!

Just got back from Disneyland and I miss the Mad Hatter's spinning teacups already. Will try to get into a regular blogging routine soon so I can finally delete all these photos stored in my camera...

I don't care how old you are, when you're in Disneyland, you revert back to your 5 year-old self and emit high-pitched squeals when you see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto or my absolute favourite, Donald Duck!

coconuts and skateboarding

A strange combination, no doubt, but that's what happens when a skateboarding showcase and Brazil Fest take over Granville on the same day. Spent the afternoon noshing on traditional Brazilian eats and watched boyz cruise and do tricks on their boards. Not too shabby for a Sunday.

Empada, the Brazilian version of chicken pot pie.
This man was slicing and dicing pineapples left, right and centre.
I have no idea how she kept her pants white after cutting open all that fruit.
Represent.
You can't tell in this picture, but there was a dog right next to her and I think the kitty was a little intimidated, even though the dog looked friendly enough.
Of course, what would a skateboarding showcase be without sponsors and some tunes?
The band getting the crowd to samba.
