light up the night

Wandered down to English Bay with some friends to check out Brazil's submission for the Celebration of Lights on August 1, 2012. The weather was perfect for firework viewing, even if it did get cooler as the sun was setting. As for the actual fireworks display, I was a little underwhelmed because I was expecting more colour in their fireworks display, but overall it was a good show.

Prime seats for the Celebration of Lights.
This jazz band pretty much played all night from 5 o'clock to around 9 o'clock as the sky was darkening.
The beluga mascot from the Vancouver Aquarium was very popular with the kids... and some adults too!
I had the munchies and there was an ice-cream cart in my direct sight... so Spongebob met a quick death.
Dusk slowing falling and the light disappearing.

After the last firework disappeared from the night, we were already walking down the street, trying to beat the majority of the crowd to get home. We ended up walking from English Bay, across the Granville Street bridge, along Broadway where I dropped my friends off at the 99 B-line bus stop and then continued to walk up Broadway to the Broadway/City Hall sky-train station, where I got to rest my weary feet on a seat on the sky-train.

khatsahlano festival - meow!

Woke up late Saturday morning and had to run some errands that took longer than I thought but still managed to get to the Khatsahlano Festival on West 4th Avenue. I went last year and I loved it and this year, it did not disappoint. Great music, rows of food trucks for hungry spectators and great sales in the boutiques along 4th Avenue and plenty of indie-craft and jewellery shopping booths for something a little more original.

This kind of reminds me of the Ghostbuster car...
Charms from India and Thailand being sold by a nice old man with dreads, who was also giving away sweet-smelling incense to some kids nearby. He travels around Asia a lot, he finds most of his knick knacks.

This made me laugh: a bunch of pretentious hipsters on the front lawn on this slight worn-down house,  with barely any room to stand, trying not to fall off the wall.
Free snowcone! I chose grape :)
Street Jenga!
Purdy's famous Hedgehog made an appearance, much to the delight of many small tykes.
Always organic and fresh.
Smart dog. It was getting very HOT in the afternoon, and he decided to take a little siesta under the table away from the sunshine.
I. Want. This.
Mini donuts ad screamers!
They make a great salmon burger and a delicious poutine with mushroom gravy.

He's pet lizard is a huge fan of indie music.
The Zolas gathering in for a group hug before starting the show.
The Zolas played one or two songs from their upcoming album, to be released sometime this fall.

The sunset over Granville Street as I'm waiting for the bus home.

so... call me maybe?

Carly Rae Jepsen's song "Call Me Maybe" has been toted as the summer hit of 2012 and while I've only heard this song a few times on the radio, I didn't realize how quickly the insanely catchy tune had taken over YouTube. A lot of funny lip syncs have been uploaded, done by sports teams, schools, celebrities and my personal favourite, the boys of Abercrombie & Fitch :)

It needs more cowbell. (Sidenote: when did the Roots become Jimmy's house band???)

This is just too funny.

The inflatable monkey just wants love.

0:41 - gets me every time.

1:30 - sooo... how are you going to play baseball with that on your arm?

GAK!

An ear worm for everyone! Glad I could share ;)

how to assemble an IKEA sofa

Step 1: Wait 3 hours for the delivery guys to drop off the packages.

Step 2: Start to put sofa frame together.

Step 3: Swear profusely while wrestling with the sofa frame in an attempt to put the sofa cover on.

Step 4: Attach the arm rests and legs to the sofa frame.

Step 5: Tuck cushions into cushion covers (thank goodness for zippers) and done!

This sofa took THREE hours to assemble. Next time, I might pay someone else to do it. Also, once they've assembled the sofa, they'll take away the packaging. Since, as you can see in the photo below, I couldn't get out of the apartment.

*** Pictures taken with my iPhone. I'll upload better photos once I find the cord... ***
